Royal Hobart Golf Day 5 July 2019
We were welcomed to Royal Hobart Golf Club with beautiful weather and fantastic conditions on course. Our field of 32 players included a number of guests and it is pleasing to see members bringing along people to swell our ranks. Welcome to Justin Smith who joined the Club on the day.
The results read a bit like a past or present Committee list with Col Heron (Life Member) having the best score of the day with 41 points. A Grade went to Roger Stokes (Secretary) from Neil Faulks (Captain). B Grade was won by Ian Mansfield (President and Life Member) from Mike Rataj, and C Grade, Peter Johnson (Committee) from Sam Vickers. Steve Frith won the visitors from Paul Read.
See the results page for the other details and check out the Fletcher Insulation Consistency Trophy scores for a run down on the day’s performances and the overall standings.
Our next event is at Claremont Golf Club on Friday 23 August.

A little history.....
The Social Golf Club of the Master Builders Tasmania was formed in Hobart in 1971 from the organisation of Bill Shields, Lou Stubbs, Eddie French, Stick Hale and a number of others, representing both Builder and Associate members of the MBA. Lou Stubbs was elected the foundation President. The club is conducted under a constitution, is self supporting both financially and administratively but always with the support of the Master Builders Association. The object of the club is to function solely for the social welfare of the members, each of whom pledges to be an ambassador of goodwill towards all sections of the trade, acting with dignity at all times.
Another core commitment of the club is to participate annually in and at all times to promote the national MBA Inc. tournament competing for the M R Hornibrook Cup. Tasmania entered the scene of Hornibrook Tournaments in 1966 when a small band of golfers from the North West Division, namely Lou Stubbs, Eddie French and Owen Bird participated on a non-state basis. They were so impressed that arrangements were made immediately to seek admission to the tournament for Tasmania and to organise a team for Newcastle in 1967. Seven members made the trip, to be disappointed by the requirement of 8 members per team, until Newcastle, in the spirit of the tournament, loaned Tasmania a player and so made the representation official for the first time.

Today.....
Today the Club enjoys a membership of over 75 plus a number of regular visitors attending golf days. In 2019 we have 11 events scheduled across the State and are once again supporting the national M R Hornibrook Cup in October, to be played at the South Australian courses of Victor Harbor, WestLakes and Glenelg.
This year sees the continuation of a Consistency Trophy with points allocated from each event according to relative position in the field in each grade. Thanks to Fletcher Insulation for this support.
The Club continues to look to build numbers and is keen to include members of Allied Trades. Anyone wishing to play in an event is most welcome and can find more information from the Secretary at [email protected] or from the next event page of this site.
